Not every reaction to a food or something in your environment is a true allergy.
A true allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to a specific substance, known as an allergen. Common allergens include environmental triggers such as pollen, grasses, trees, dust mites, and pet dander, as well as foods such as peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, and other foods. Allergic reactions can vary widely from person to person, depending on the allergen and the individual immune response.
Sensitivities can cause very real symptoms, but they involve different mechanisms within the body. Understanding the difference is important because the way we approach treatment may be different.
One of the ways we address allergies is with Sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT).

Our first goal is to determine whether your symptoms are related to a true allergy or a potential sensitivity.
When appropriate, we use blood testing to evaluate IgE antibodies associated with true allergic reactions. This can help us identify specific food or environmental allergens and develop a treatment strategy based on your individual immune response.
We also look at the bigger picture, including inflammation and immune function, to understand why your body may be overreacting in the first place.

Depending on your results, treatment may include strategies to reduce exposure, support healthy immune function, and decrease your body's response to specific allergens.
One option is sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT), also known as allergy drops.
Similar to allergy shots, sublingual immunotherapy is designed to gradually desensitize the immune system to specific allergens. Instead of receiving injections at an allergist's office, customized allergy drops are administered at home according to your prescribed treatment plan.
Sublingual immunotherapy may be considered for certain environmental and food allergens based on your individual evaluation.

Our goal is to identify what you're actually reacting to, distinguish true allergies from sensitivities, and create a personalized strategy to help regulate your immune response and reduce symptoms.
